tips-on-looking-for-a-job-secretly-2There comes a time in our life that we have to look for another employer eventhough we are gainfully employed. The reasons vary from professional, personal, or financial ones. If you are at that circumstance right now, read on, the tips below may help lessen the pounding of your heart and avoid pounding the street as an unemployed.

Here are the tips:

Search job at home or at internet café

Do not search a job using your office time and computer. It is very dangerous especially if the IT guy is not your buddy. They may be snooping on you. They can monitor your e-mails, web sites visited, your surfing habits, and your voicemail messages. Better pay from your own pocket rather than pay your mistake with your job.

Be Personally Visible

There is no substitute for the old networking system. You know, friends telling friends. Join your local professional or community organizations. However, don’t just sit there, be an active member. Knowing your expertise, talents and capacities at a personal level, surely boast your chance of getting job referrals from them.

Keep a Low profile in your job search

Don’t announce that you are looking for a job over MySpace, Multiply, your blog or any network/community websites. Your boss or HR people may happen to read your announcement. Be discreet about it. Or else, you may run out of job before you can run away from it. Shhhh …

Hide your Current Employer’s Name

I am guilty of this mistake; too proud where I work. It is an absolute; no! no! Your boss or HR people by accident may search the internet using your company’s name, and buela! They find out that you are looking for a job. Better replace the name of your company, e.g. GLOBE, with another descriptive words like “One of the Leading Telecom Company”.  Be safe. Be SMART.

Other tips:

  • Do use your Personal Cell phone number on your resume.
  • Don’t use your work e-mail address in your job search.
  • Do use privacy settings when posting your resume on job sites.
  • Don’t bad mouth your current employer.
  • Do schedule after-hours interviews.
  • Don’t give your current boss as a reference.
  • Do stay focus mentally on your current job.

Now, you are more prepared to go out there and search your dream job … secretly.
